The delegation of the State Tourism Agency represented Azerbaijan at high-level events on tourism and climate action held within the framework of the UN COP30 conference in Belém, Brazil.
During meetings and panel discussions organized as part of the event, Günay Bayramova, representative of the State Tourism Agency, delivered an extensive presentation on Azerbaijan’s activities and new priorities following COP29. She highlighted that Azerbaijan’s leadership at COP29 - particularly its support for the adoption of the “Declaration on Enhanced Climate Action in the Tourism Sector” - made a significant contribution to raising the profile of tourism within the global climate agenda.
She noted that the COP29 experience demonstrated that tourism is still not sufficiently addressed in the climate policies of many countries, and therefore there is a need to establish a global partnership mechanism that can align tourism and climate policies at both national and international levels.
It was emphasized during the discussions that the emerging “Global Partnership” initiative could serve as an important platform to strengthen coordination between countries and business entities.
It should be noted that the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was held this year from 10 to 21 November in Belém, Brazil, with 19-20 November designated as “Tourism Days”.
The topic of tourism received special attention in COP history for the first time in 2024, when Azerbaijan, as host of COP29, introduced 20 November as “Tourism Day” on the official agenda.
